I was honored to be invited and to give a talk at Apple's Human-Centered Machine Learning workshop in Cupertino (a first visit for me!). My talk was entitled AI-Powered AR Accessibility, which showcased work by Makeability Lab students Chu Li, Jae Lee, and Xia Su as well as collaborations with Professors Yochai Eisenberg (UIC), Yuhang Zhao (UWisc), and Yapeng Tian (UT-Dallas).
The workshop hosted leading experts working at the intersection of HCI and AI and included talks both by academics and Apple researchers on topics such as activity sensing, model interpretability, visualization, UI screen understanding, accessibility, and more. It was so stimulating to learn not just about academic work in this space but how Apple Research translates ideas into product.
They did not allow us to take pictures during the workshop, so the only group shot I have is from our Apple Park tour (see header image). However, I did snap a few pictures in some semi-public areas of the Apple campus:
While I've long felt that the San Jose area is typified by concrete and strip malls, I actually found some beautiful running routes, including a sunrise 8-miler (round trip) from my hotel to Hunters Point in the Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. I highly recommend checking out the reserve for a run or hike!
