Congrats to Jae Lee who successfully presented his qualifying project entitled “CookAR: Affordance Augmentations in Wearable AR to Support Kitchen Tool Interactions for People with Low Vision.” The talk was attended by committee members Professors Froehlich (Chair) and Yoshi Kohno as well as ~15 others.
Jae and a team of undergraduate and graduate students built and evaluated CookAR, a head-mounted AR system with real-time object affordance augmentations to support safe and efficient interactions with kitchen tools. This work was conducted under the co-advisement of Professors Yuhang Zhao (an expert in low-vision AR at UWisc), Yapeng Tian (a computer vision professor at UT-Dallas), and Jae’s advisor, Professor Jon E. Froehlich at UW. It was submitted to and accepted at UIST’24, the premier publication venue in interactive systems where it won the Best Paper Inclusion Award.
